I decided it might be time for an update, as another 18 months have rolled by since I last posted anything on this website. That's kinda what happens when the next novel is in progress. Back in November, I thought I had the manuscript finished but, fortunately, I have a wonderful agent who was honest enough to set me straight when my starry-eyed enthusiasm for the new story blinded me to the fact that major revisions were needed. And I'm discovering so much more about these characters, the world they occupy, and why this particular story is important to me. Hoping to have a presentable draft done by the end of the summer. Stay tuned.

Wow!! A whole year has slipped by without my posting any news--likely because there hasn't been any news. This doesn't mean I haven't been busy. Quite the contrary, I've almost finished the first draft of my new novel. 248 pages and counting. Of course, many of those pages will have to be cut and/or revised. One character, in particular, is going to undergo a drastic change. From where I sit now, that looks like at least another six months of work.
In the meantime, when the novel gets too frustrating, I play around with short stories. One of my favorites just got published last month at Boomer Lit (boomerlitmag.com). Now I just need to find homes for the other dozen or so stories.

Yesterday, I met with the Lake Bluff Library Book Club. They had chosen THE WORLD UNDONE for this month's discussion and invited me for a Q & A. Really smart women asked really good questions, and I had such a good time. Thanks, Ladies!!

The reading event at Re-Invent was great! My co-authors included Jen Lancaster, Shari Brady, and Julie Morse. SEveral people asked if we would do this again, and the answer is YES!

My Monday night author talk at Barnes & Noble, Crystal Lake, was terrific! A great turnout, and I sold a pile of books.
My enthusiasm for getting out and talking about my work is renewed. Thanks, B&N!

Just finished booking a few author events (see the calendar page). The reading I will do at Re-Invent will be from one of my published short stories. I won't have time to read the entire story aloud, so a task between now and November will be figuring out a brief synopsis for the first ten pages or so.

It's almost the end of June and my agent has probably forgotten my name, my publicist might think I've left the country, and my social life is non-existant. Since just after the launch of TWELVE THOUSAND MORNINGS, I've been working on my collection of short stories. Writing a novel is a piece of cake compared to juggling a dozen short pieces.
I vowed last year that I would take time off before starting my next novel to bolster my short story creds. To date, I've had six published. The goal is 15 to 20.
Good news: I have 4 completed, 4 in revision, and 4 in very rough draft form.
Bad news: That means 8 are unfinished and 12 are unpublished. Lots of work ahead.

My book launch for TWELVE THOUSAND MORNINGS was so much fun! Lake forest Book Store provided a festive and yummy array of snacks, wine and soft drinks, and a great time was had by all. Sales pushed my book to #1 Best Seller for the week. It is a thrill to have out-sold Erik Larsen and Paula Hawkins!

Lots going on as production of my second novel, Twelve Thousand Mornings is in full swing. I've already got several author events on the calendar for 2015.

I recieved a lovely email recently that I want to post here, even though it feels incredibly bragadocious:
Tammy K. writes: "I've been overseas the past week and was finally able to read your novel. To be honest, I couldn't put it down and most likely set a personal record on how fast I read a book! Wow! It was a great story. I did not see the ending coming. I had tears running down my cheeks while on the flight from Dubai to Frankfurt. I just wanted you to now how much I enjoyed the book and how incredibly talented I think you are!"
Thanks so much, Tammy! I'll be sending you a copy of the sequel as soon as it comes out (hopefully early 2015)

Spent last weekend at RWA Spring Fling. What an excellent conference! I met some great people, learned some new tricks of the trade, and shared laughs and comraderie with friends, new and old. Looking forward to the next conference in 2016.

Just finished a second (or is it third?) revision of Twelve Thousand Mornings, the sequel to The World Undone.
There will be more revisions to come, but I'm on goal to have this next novel out by this time next year.

Just learned that THE WORLD UNDONE is a finalist for Chicago Writers Association Book of the Year!
October 15, 2013
The circus of promoting WORLD UNDONE combined with trying to write the sequel and carry on with my "real" job has meant neglecting this site. Lots going on, as you can see by the events page. I'm excited about my first rado interview on October 19, and the author signing at Barnes & Noble.
I've organized a Book Fair for independent authors--twelve of us--which will take place on Nov. 2, followed by a workshop the next day to help others understand the pros and cons of indie publishing. Check out the events page for details.
My short stories are also rearing their ugly heads, demanding attention, so much of my time lately has been devoted to them. My goal is to have six published in the next year. Yeah, I know that's ambitious, but so is trying to succeed in this business.
Below this line is old news, which I realize I should have reversed, but frankly, I'm too lazy to bother at this point.
APRIL 14. 2013
I'm just back from a great time at the University of Wisconsin Writers' Institute Conference.
